The first week of summer I stayed at home relaxing watching movies, and TV shows. Each movie had an extensive English vocabulary, for example the movie Remember Me starring Robert Pattison, this movie was hard to get because I did not understand some of the words but the majority I understand because I learned them in 9th grade English class. Another movie I saw and I had to ask my dad for the vocabulary was the movie Shakespeare in love; it is a movie about Shakespeare having a romance with a woman while writing Romeo and Juliet. The old English vocabulary was hard to get but I remembered some of the words and knew the rhythm of how they were talking. I saw the TV show house, which was about a doctor finding ways to cure the sickness of his patients; doctors have a broad language because a lot of the medical words are difficult to understand in the normal day language.
The second week I read a book eclipse, I enjoyed this book because I had read twilight and new moon, I’m looking forward of reading the next one. But when I finish reading this book I will start a new subject, a book called white fang. My dad told me that he read this book when he was young and told to read it because it was one of his favorite books. I read the book eclipse fast because my English is advanced and I knew what the book was happening about. Even though I never read I really enjoyed reading it because it’s a book about something I like to read about, for example the mocking bird was boring at the beginning , but when I started to get in the story it got even better . This summer I realized that reading a book is better than watching the movie.
The third week I went to Tela with my friend Kenneth Johnson. We went to the Ensenada and we met two young girls from the united state, we had fun talking about our self. They came from Miami and there were staying for 1 week in Tela and we went to eat to a place called Las Cabanas de Flora. And they served us a huge fish with fried plantain and beans with rice and coconut milk, delicious, Then my dad picked us up and we started to see movies late at night and the movie that I really liked was the Lion King, it even has a message that you have to learn from your mistakes, learn from the past it may hurt but you can hide from it or learn it.
The fourth week I went to Kenneth’s house everyday or he would go to mine and watch the South Africa World Cup. My teams were Honduras obviously, Germany and the United States. At my house we saw the games in English because my father has the cable with more than a thousand channels and also in high definition. I prefer to watch it in Spanish because I understand more but I like the English channels better. I hate the TV shows in Spanish, I see shows in Spanish in my room but I spend the majority of the time in my father’s room in front of the TV so I could watch it in English.
The fifth week my cousin from Miami came to visit us, her name was Elsie. It was hard for me because I only talk English in school and barley in summer, but I started to talk good fluent English and they told me that I was talking like if I was living in the states, that gave me the confidence and now I feel relaxed talking English. One day we went to eat dinner and the waiter was asking us our order, but Elsie did not know what the waiter was saying, and at the end I started translating the order to the waiter and I did a good job.
The sixth week I went to Miami to see my other cousins. in Miami I had to buy my things for school, new clothes, shoes, perfumes, t shirts and etc. Emma the oldest cousin helped me with my shopping because she knew where everything is in the mall, at the end of the day I was exhausted of walking and driving all Miami and my cousin told me “no more shopping for now” and we went to have fun at universal studios in Orlando, we went to all the rides. When we were walking to the island of super heroes in the park I saw a lonely girl crying because she lost her mom, but I took her to the police guards and when her mom cam she thanked me and gave me a cookie she had in her purse, and a big hug.
The seventh week I went to Tela again with Kenneth, my dad, my aunt Aida, my uncle Rob who only talks English and Robert my little cousin. Rob Is the type of person who is very healthy and likes to run in the morning, very energetic, they landed in San Pedro Sula and they bought a lot of snacks for the house and he bought energetic bars and there were all in Spanish and he told me “Pupi can you translate what this in the back says and I did. That week was when they told us about the big news of going to Roatan the next week and everyone was exiting, and I was practicing my English because the majority of the people in Roatan are international.
The last week we went to Roatan. It was fun and the first thing we did when we got there was the beach and we saw people selling bracelets, earrings and other stuff tourist would buy. I bought a bracelet for 2 dollars. All of my cousins were there Emma, Sophia, and Robert. We went diving and snorkeling, it was fun. One day at the pool we met some people in the pool from Puerto Rico but they lived in Orlando. Their names were Eddie who always told jokes, Izzy the party one, and George the youngest and still in college. I talked to them in Spanish and they understood but they preferred to talk in English because it’s easier so we did. That was the last part of the vacation and then back to school.
